Montagu – Montagu via Route 62, the Cango Caves and Swartberg Pass (+/- 635km)
We leave Montagu, the beginning of the Route 62, the longest wine route, early in the morning. Along majestic mountains we work our way up further towards the Great Karoo, to find Ronnie’s Sex Shop, a bar in the middle of nowhere as our on-route stop. Before crossing one of the most beautiful off-road mountain passes in South Africa, a guided tour in the Cango Caves await our visit. We make our way back to Montagu via Matjiesfontein and the Koo Valley.
With 625 km this is certainly not one of the shortest day-trips on our list, we will leave Montagu at 07:30 and will most likely only be back around 19:30. We are expected in the Cango Caves for a guided visit at 12:00.
At the base of the Majestic Swartberg Mountains where they say: “The nothingness, the wide open spaces and the deafening stillness; is a balm for the soul at sunset”.
